Replace Your Car's AC Thermal Expansion Valve or Orifice Tube

D & B Bear Service

Your car or truck's AC system is under extreme pressure and the thermal expansion valve or orifice tube monitors the amount of pressure and the temperature of your A/C system. It calculates the precise amount of refrigerant that can safely go into the evaporator. A failing expansion valve or orifice tube often causes a vehicle's air conditioner to blow hot air.

Replace or Repair

  • Expansion Valves: Too much refrigerant causes your evaporator to get too cold whereas too little refrigerant would result in inadequate cooling. The expansion valve is a complex valve that regulates refrigerant flow. This process of metering the refrigerant adjusts the flow according to the temperature of the refrigerant in the evaporator coil. Talk to one of the pro mechanics at D & B Bear Service, as this part can be replaced on its own and does not require the entire replacement of the AC assembly.
  • Orifice Tubes: Unlike the expansion valve, the orifice tube is a simple fixed device with no moving parts. It therefore cannot vary the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator, but rather causes a permanent restriction in the system. However, like the expansion valve the orifice tube regulates refrigerant flow through the system and filters debris which may come through in its screen. Often fixing a "bad orifice tube" requires replacing the entire evaporator assembly.

What Our Customers Are Saying

I had a severely bent tie rod on my new Honda CRV. D & B Bear Auto replaced both the inner and outer RF rods and aligned all tires on the vehicle, correcting a poor alignment in the rear. The poor alignment in the rear had caused the rear tires to wear excessively in two places. I had to replace those tires as well. They did a timely, excellent job. My vehicle only has 5k miles on it due to COVID and little driving since it was purchased. It runs and handles better than it did when I drove it off the lot after purchasing it. Thank you so much...I will be back!

This is the second time I have used this service, the first time was for a complete brake line replacement due to rusted lines. The second time was due to an oil leak. Both times Jack and his team were knowledgeable and professional! The vehicle was completed on time with no return visits. I'm in Albany visiting, I live 3,500 miles away in Florida. Jack could have taken me for a ride being stranded this far away from home he did not, he was honest, kept me informed and his prices were very reasonable. My only complaint is D & B Bear Service is not located in Cape Coral Florida. If I lived here he would get all my work and all my friends work! Thank you Jack!

Our daughter is a student at OSU and her car broke down and we live 5 hours away, but they were very helpful when they called my daughter and worked closely with her in getting her car diagnosed (they spent all day diagnosing the issue and discovered it was a bad transmission). They treated my daughter with full respect and friendliness and we really appreciated how they treated my daughter during the stressful time. D & B Bear Service came highly recommended by the OSU Parent Group and we most definitely have become their customer for future car repairs while our daughter is a student at OSU.

My parents have owned D & B Bear service for nearly 40 years. They pride themselves on being honest and always putting the customer first. They also have always offered friendly service. My father started working at his family's business when he was 12 years. His experience is something that you don't find that often. If you are looking for great, friendly, honest service, give Jack a call today.

We discovered these guys from a person who sold us a used car. It was a '94 Honda they had been responsible for since it was new. I have been driving for 55 years and have used many repair shops in many cities. We have used these guys on many occasions in the last several years for all of our cars' repairs. I used to work on cars myself when I was young so I know when I am getting BS. These guys are very very good - the best I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and give them a shot.
